New, Exclusively Designed Mauricio Ramirez Debit Cards Now Available

Newest debit cards feature bold, vibrant designs

Local visual artist Maurico Ramirez, known for his large-scale murals across Milwaukee and Wisconsin, has left another massive imprint. This time, exclusively for UW Credit Union members.

Beginning today, two unique debit card designs from Ramirez, both featuring bold, abstract art that celebrates Latino culture, are now available. While influenced by Ramirez’s Mexican heritage, the vibrant artwork reflects people and community, serving as a tangible representation of unity. Much like his famous “Giannis” mural in downtown Milwaukee, Ramirez often evokes the power of prominent historical figures—past and present—to serve as inspiration sources. One of the two new card designs features a geometric silhouette of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The other provides a naturalistic aesthetic through organic shapes, patterns and rich vibrant colors.

“We’re drawn to how Ramirez seamlessly intersects history and popular culture in a way the lifts all of us,” said UW Credit Union EVP, Chief Marketing & Product Strategy Officer Anne Norman. “We’re grateful for his time and talent, and very fortunate that a personal piece of his work is solely available to UW Credit Union members.”

In addition to these exclusive card designs, Ramirez’s creative works are featured at UW Credit Union’s Madison administrative campus. His two-story mural, completed this spring, greets visitors in the lobby. Three additional works of art add beauty and inspiration throughout the campus. These prominent visuals are a much-loved addition to the credit union’s new headquarters, fostering a welcoming environment and creating a culture of allyship.

Ramirez currently lives in Chicago but spends a lot of time in Wisconsin where many of his murals and artwork are featured. He has worked with UW-Madison and the Brewers™, both strong partners of the credit union, and is often heralded for the way he immerses himself in the cultural scene of his project locations to connect with community members on a deeper level. Ramirez is a proud UW Credit Union member.

Other artists featured in the UW Credit Union Expression Collection include legendary artist and activist Keith Haring (limited-run card design) and local artist Mike Lroy. Members can select these iconic designs when ordering a new card via the UW Credit Union app or in branch.
